Energy Star Appliances: Any Season, They Help You Save

Energy Star Appliances

When it comes to shopping for your next heating and cooling appliance, you’ll want to get the most out of your new investment. That means finding the most energy-efficient products available. One way to get plenty of bang for your buck is to find Energy Star Appliances.

Developed by the U.S. Department of Energy, the Energy Star program is designed to help consumers find the most energy efficient appliances and electronics for their needs. Qualifying products must meet specific federal standards for energy efficiency. Products that exceed the minimum standards offer significant savings on utility bills throughout the year.

Learn how the following Energy Star appliances can benefit your home

Furnaces

Qualifying gas, oil, propane and electric furnaces offer higher AFUE (Annual Fuel Utilization Efficiency) ratings than ordinary furnaces. Many of these furnaces are also “condensing” furnaces, with heat transfer capabilities so efficient that only water or condensate is left as a byproduct of combustion.

Qualifying boilers not only have higher AFUE ratings, but also have energy efficiency-enhancing features such as electronic ignition.

Central Air Conditioning

Central air conditioners featuring the Energy Star label have higher SEER (Seasonal Energy Efficiency Ratio) and EER (Energy Efficiency Ratio) ratings. SEER is used to measure the efficiency of air conditioners while EER provides a measure of cooling efficiency at an outdoor temperature of 95 degrees.

Heat Pumps

Qualifying electric air-source heat pumps offer higher SEER and EER ratings than their conventional counterparts. These units also have a higher Heating Seasonal Performance Factor (HSPF), a measure of a heat pump’s heating efficiency. Thanks to their use of the earth’s natural heat and overall energy efficiency, geothermal heat pumps also qualify as Energy Star certified products.

No matter the time of the year, you can always count on Energy Star equipment to help you save on utility costs while providing enjoyable comfort for your home.
