History of Riverview
Riverview AC Repair | Riverview, FL was founded on the banks of the Alafia River in 1885, what is now the southern part of the community of Riverview took its original name, Peru, from an Indian name for the straight part of the river. About thirty years later, the settlement of Riverview itself was founded on the north side of the river. The two communities were connected to one another by a ferry and, eventually, a bridge spanning the river. In the 1940s, the Riverview name entered common usage and the older term “Peru” gradually disappeared.
The first school in the area was founded inside the Peru Baptist Church in 1893. One of the most prominent businesses in the early years of the community was the Peruvian Mining Company, which collected phosphates from the Alafia River. In more recent years, the area has seen a surge of incoming residents, with the population increasing by a factor of six in the last decade.
Geography
According to the most recent census data, Riverview includes just over 46 square miles of land. Dominating the landscape is, of course, the Alafia River, which splits the community into northern and southern halves. The river’s name means “River of Fire,” a reference to the glowing phosphorous at the bottom of the river at night.
Demographics
Riverview is home to over 70,000 people living in more than 27,500 houses. It is a young and affluent community with a median household income that is well above the Florida average. Nearly 80 percent of Riverview residents own their own homes. As of 2007, Riverview was also home to nearly 3,000 businesses.
Riverview Attractions
One of the most popular places to visit in Riverview is the Winthrop Town Centre, a traditional marketplace that includes eight different restaurants, more than a dozen stores and many other businesses. While most of the amenities included in a modern shopping center are there, the Town Centre offers a uniquely communal environment that prioritizes relationships over commerce.

Like the rest of the Tampa Bay area, Riverview sees plenty of sunny days, a fair amount of rain, and little if any snow. Temperatures can get somewhat cool in the winter, but for the most part the cooling season lasts all year long.
